Winter coaching staff appointed
JOHNSTOWN — The Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education recently appointed winter coaching staff for the 2020-21 school year, albeit high school sports is still questionable with COVID-19.
“This is all contingent upon commencement of the winter sports season,” said board President Christopher Tallon.
The board gave the following persons term appointments: Phillip Satterlee, boys basketball head coach — $4,496 stipend; Tim Derwin, girls basketball head coach — $4,496; David Hayward, bowling head coach — $2,315; Jeff Krempa — skiing (alpine) head coach — $3,770; Matt Brower, skiing (cross country) head coach — $3,770; Julie Popp, swim (co-ed) head coach — $3,636 — half paid by Fonda-Fultonville; and Clay Oeser, wrestling head coach — paid by Fonda-Fultonville.
In other personnel action, the board took action on two separate resolutions related to a social worker position.
“We have to create the position and make it with the appointment in the next resolution because this is a new position for the district,” Tallon said.
The board created the position, effective Nov. 2. The board then named Kathryn Watson the school social worker. She was named to a four-year term running until Nov. 1, 2024 at a prorated salary of $73,779.
Patricia Lago was given a leave of absence as a teaching assistant, while the board also accepted the resignation of teaching assistant Trisha Trumble.
Wendy Phillips was named as a substitute food helper for this school year.
Eleven persons were appointed as unpaid strength and conditioning volunteers for this school year.
The resignation for retirement of 34-year account clerk typist Susan Hansen was accepted by the board “with regrets,” effective Nov. 30.
Barney Hayes was provided a term appointment as a 1:1 teacher aide, at minimum wage, effective through June 25, 2021. He will work two days per week, at 6.5 hours per day.
The board also appointed Erin Fazio as a ;long-term substitute special education teacher, at $110.40 per day.
