Schenectady woman faces charges

JOHNSTOWN — Monigue Lester, 29, of Schenectady was charged by Fulton County sheriff’s investigators Thursday with third-degree welfare fraud, third-degree grand larceny, and three counts of first-degree offering a false instrument for filing.

Investigators said she was charged after a complaint from the county Department of Social Services that she allegedly defrauded the state of over $3,000 by receiving free childcare benefits for which she didn’t qualify.

Deputies said she was able to receive benefits because she failed to report her children’s father was on work release from state prison and home with the children.

Lester was arraigned in Johnstown City Court and released to reappear later.

County inmate faces additional charges

JOHNSTOWN — Joshua S. Hodgson, 39, an inmate in the Fulton County Correctional Facility, was charged by Fulton County sheriff’s deputies Monday with filing a false written statement and falsely reporting an incident to law enforcement, both misdemeanors.

Deputies said he was arrested after investigators determined that a report he previously filed was falsely making claims he was assaulted by jail officers. Investigators said extensive interviews and video surveillance proved him wrong.

The suspect was returned back to the jail to face further court action.

Johnstown woman arrested on warrant

JOHNSTOWN — Nicole M. Goodemote, 34, of Old Peck Hill Road, town of Johnstown, was arrested by Fulton County sheriff’s deputies Monday on a warrant.

Deputies said the warrant was for failure to pay a fine in Johnstown City Court.

The fine was related to a 2019 welfare fraud arrest.

Goodemote was turned over to the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office as there was a separate warrant for her from that county.
