County DMV closed to public until Dec. 1

JOHNSTOWN — The state Department of Motor Vehicles Office in Johnstown is being shut down immediately until December due to COVID-19.

County Administrative Officer Jon Stead issued a statement Tuesday indicating that the DMV office at the County Office Building, 223 W. Main St., is being closed to the public until Dec. 1.

“Due to a COVID-19 exposure within the Fulton County Department of Motor Vehicles, the County Clerk’s Office, including DMV, will be closed to public access effective Nov. 18 through Nov. 30.”

Stead said this decision was made with Fulton County Public Health Director Laurel Headwell. The DMV and County Clerk Records Room were operating by appointments only. But now all in-person appointments have been canceled until further notice to ensure safety to the public.

The statement said the public is encouraged to use the DMV drop box on West Main Street or conduct online transactions until the office is reopened.
