Teacher appointments slated

JOHNSTOWN –Numerous personnel items, including teacher appointments, were approved recently by the Greater Johnstown School District Board of Education.

The board met online and approved hiring two teachers due to extended leaves.

Appointed was Brandon Hillier, as extended leave social studies teacher, $46,158 annual salary (prorated), pursuant to the Tri-County Substitute Teachers’ Union, effective Sept. 28 through June 30, 2021.

Also appointed was Delilah Purcell, as extended leave substitute elementary teacher, at $46,158 annual salary (prorated), pursuant to the Tri-County Substitute Teachers’ Union, anticipated from Nov. 5 through January 15, 2021.

In other personnel-related action:

∫ Board members rescinded a resolution adopted on Aug. 27 approving the term appointment of Jennifer VonderHeide as Student Council assistant at the Johnstown Junior-Senior High School for the 2020-21 school year.

∫ Rescinded was a resolution adopted July 7 approving the appointment of the assistant superintendent as school lunch verification officer for the 2020-21 school year at no additional compensation. In a separate resolution, the board appointed Susan Frank of Capital Region BOCES as school lunch verification officer for the 2020-21 school year at no additional compensation.

∫ The board rescinded a resolution adopted July 7 approving the appointment of Betsy Thomas as the school lunch reviewing officer for the 2020-21 school year at no additional compensation. In a separate resolution, the board appointed Frank to the position for the 2020-21 school year at no additional compensation.

∫ Term appointments of co-curricular staff for the 2020-21 school year were given to: Meredith Fagan, Master Minds: $1,000; Jennifer VonderHeide, Student Council advisor (HS): $3,500; Jeffrey Kolakowski, Student Council assistant (HS): $1,750.

∫ Data coaches named were: Heidi Bolebruch, JJSHS: $2,500; Meredith Fagan, JJSHS: $2,500; Allison Grupp, JJSHS: $2,500; Chad Swanson, Warren Street: $2,500; Kaitlin O’Keefe, Warren Street: $2,500; Kayla Collins, Pleasant Avenue: $2,500.

∫ Resignations were approved for the following staff: Mirella Casale as cook, for the purpose of retirement, effective Sept. 29; Zachary Viscosi, as a teacher’s aide, effective Sept. 28; William Trojan, as teaching assistant, effective Sept. 30.

∫ Board members amended a resolution adopted July 29 approving the resignation of Betsy Thomas as account clerk typist, for the purpose of retirement, effective Nov. 30. The effective date was amended to Dec. 23.

∫ Other personnel moves included: Leave of absence for Patricia Lago, teaching assistant; substitute appointment of Paula Salatel, substitute school secretary; substitute appointment of Amber Hobbie, substitute food service helper; and the probationary appointment of Amber Hobbie, Food Service helper.
