Liberty ARC receives grant from Walmart

AMSTERDAM — The Liberty ARC, the Montgomery County Chapter of The Arc New York, has received a $2,500 grant from the Amsterdam Walmart Community Grant Program, according to a news release.

The WCGP receives more than 150,000 applications annually. These grants are awarded by local stores to various non-profits, based on community impact and need.

The Liberty ARC will use these funds to enhance the quality of life for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and others in-need in the community.

A portion of the grant will be used to fund virtual chair yoga classes for people supported at the agency, and offered to community business partners who provide services to the senior citizen population.

The remaining funds will be used to purchase equipment for a hydroponic garden set up at one of Liberty ARC’s day support sites.

The hydroponic garden will provide a year-round educational opportunity for individuals with disabilities. Individuals will learn how to cook, grow, and transplant organic food. The remaining food items will be donated to local food banks and charity organizations in the community.

“We are proud to announce that we have received a community grant from the Amsterdam Walmart, for the fourth consecutive year,” said Jennifer Saunders, chief executive officer of Liberty ARC. “We extend our sincere gratitude to the Amsterdam Walmart for their continued support, and for helping to underwrite important programs in our community. We are excited to use this grant funding to provide wellness activities, and educational opportunities, for the people we support as well as other members in our community.”
