Happy Fall also means ‘File Your FAFSA’ season

This is the time of year that Fulton-Montgomery Community College normally announces where and when our financial aid professionals would normally be setting up dates that provide the service of visiting high schools in Fulton, Montgomery and Hamilton counties to present parents and prospective college students with all the information needed to know about the college financial aid process and offer help in completing your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), the New York State Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and New York State Excelsior scholarship applications. In normal times, during these workshops, financial aid professionals sit down with families and pour over tax returns, answer questions, and calm nerves about the process of applying for financial aid.

Well, if you’ve heard it once, you’ve heard it a million time, we are living in unprecedented times and these times call for a totally different way of doing things, in this case, helping families get their financial aid forms completed.

Although, our financial aid professionals will not be able to do what they love in person, which involves visiting each and every high school in our local counties, meeting one-on-one, they are still here for you and we will help you with your financial aid forms, in just a little different way.

A recorded presentation is under development that families will be able to watch in the comfort of your home at your convenience.

The presentation will explain all the necessary information needed regarding completing the financial aid process, why you should apply, what websites you need to go to and when you need to begin this process, which by the way is NOW!

Keep an eye on our website, www.fmcc.edu, and check in with your school counseling offices for when the presentation will be available.

Once you have had the time to watch (and re-watch) the presentation, we will then offer dates and times when you can pop into a Zoom call and ask us questions. The Zoom call dates and times are scheduled for: Thursday at 12 p.m. and Nov. 10, at 6 p.m.

When you sit down to complete the FAFSA, please have the following items at hand: 2019 Federal and State Tax Returns and W-2’s for the student and parent(s), social security numbers, dates of birth, valid e-mail addresses (personal only, no school accounts and no work accounts), drivers’ licenses and all asset information (cash, savings and checking accounts). This information is necessary to complete and sign the FAFSA and TAP applications.

Please plan on spending some time with the FM Financial Aid professionals virtually, to learn about the information needed to complete the financial aid process and get the best possible financial aid package.

Although FM continues to be the best deal in town as it relates to the quality of education and the price of a college education, please know that we FM’s financial aid office available to assist families with these applications, regardless of which college your student is considering for the fall 2021 semester.

If you have any questions regarding any financial aid related programs, please contact the Financial Aid Office at (518) 736-3622 ext. 8201 for by email at finaid.mail@fmcc.suny.edu.
