Be a tourist in your own town plan

FONDA — To promote local tourism in Montgomery County, the County Executive’s Office, Business Development Center and the Fulton Montgomery Regional Chamber of Commerce are looking for businesses to participate in the new “Be a Tourist in Your Own Town” initiative.

According to a news release, the initiative is intended to help promote local tourism, and will feature a series of day trips to take in Montgomery County. Each trip will include a suggested itinerary with places to visit and explore, as well as restaurants to stop at along the way.

“The ‘Be a Tourist in Your Own Town’ initiative is an excellent opportunity to show residents some of the fun activities or restaurants available right in their community,” said Montgomery County Executive Matt Ossenfort. “Not only will this campaign help support local businesses, it will provide suggestions to families so they can explore areas of their own county that they may not have otherwise visited.”

The Business Development Center will create short videos of each trip. These videos, as well as a blog post and photos will be promoted through each organization’s social media account and website.

“This is a great time to explore Montgomery County. We have so many places to go and can accommodate many hobbies and interests right in our own backyard,” said Fulton and Montgomery County Director of Tourism Development Anne Boles. “Hiking, biking, fishing, exploring historical landmarks, peaceful walks along the Erie Canal, at Schoharie Crossing, on of many parks, or at the shrines. Farm fresh foods are available at stands throughout the county. Whatever you like, it is here ready for you to enjoy.”

Any business owner who is interested in being featured should contact Boles at tourism@fultonmontgomeryny.org by Sept. 10.

Businesses who respond will be entered to win a Chamber Check, which is a gift check that can be redeemed at more than 150 chamber member businesses located throughout the region.
