Drowning ruled accidental

FLORIDA — State police are investigating the death of a 79-year-old man who was found dead in the Schoharie Creek on Tuesday.

Edward Kazlauskas, of Fonda, was found dead in the Schoharie Creek near the area of Power House Road in the town of Florida.

State police were dispatched to that area at approximately 1:15 p.m. on Tuesday after individuals who had gone to the area to swim located Kazlauskas in the water and reported it to police.

An autopsy was performed at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam in which the cause of death was determined to be an accidental drowning.

State police Public Information Officer Kerra Burns said the matter remains under investigation. Updates will be posted to the state police newsroom.
