Sheriff: Clifton Park man injured in Canajoharie snow mobile accident
CANAJOHARIE — A Clifton Park resident faced minor injuries following a snow mobile accident that took place on Saturday.
According to a press release, the Montgomery County Sheriff’s 911 dispatch center received a call of a snow mobile accident in which the driver identified as 40-year-old Raymond Lefco was injured.
“The driver had lost control and hit a bump,” said Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith. “He was ejected off of the sled.”
Smith said Lefco suffered minor injuries and reported he had back pain and trouble breathing. Lefco was transported to an area hospital where his injuries could be further evaluated. Smith said due to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act he did not have an update on Lefco and whether he was released from the hospital yet.
The accident occurred about 1.5 miles off of the roadway on a marked snow mobile trail in the town.
Smith said deputies did have trouble getting to the location of the accident because it was over a mile off the road. He said the fire departments were able to assist using their equipment to get through the snow.
According to the press release, emergency crews were dispatched to the area of Canyon Road and Sprakers Road where they were able to locate others who were riding with Lefco. From there, members of the Canajoharie Fire Department, Fort Plain Fire Department, the Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps. and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office were able to locate Lefco and transport him to a hospital.
