Hudson woman killed in Friday crash

MAYFIELD — The names of the two drivers involved in a fatal vehicle accident that occurred on Friday have been released by state police.

The crash — involving a tractor trailer driven by 57-year-old Daniel Barr, of Cobleskill, and a 2012 Hyundai Elantra driven by 43-year-old Victoria F. Sweatt, of Hudson — occurred at 10 a.m. on Friday during a winter storm.

State Police Troop G Public Information Officer Kerra Burns said Sweatt had died in the accident and Barr, the driver of the tractor trailer, was not injured.

A preliminary investigation determined Sweatt was traveling north on Route 30 just south of Woods Hollow Road when her vehicle crossed into the southbound lane colliding head-on with a tractor trailer. The tractor trailer was headed southbound at the time of the collision.

“Weather was determined to be a contributing factor,” Burns said.

The case will remain under investigation until the accident reconstruction report has been finished. Burns said that could take some time.

A mixture of rain and heavy snow accumulated throughout the day on Friday, causing several motor vehicle incidents.

Montgomery County Sheriff Jeff Smith said on Friday that there were several tractor trailers, cars and trucks going off the roads, getting stuck and bumping into other vehicles.

The winter storm also caused trees and wires to go down throughout Fulton and Montgomery counties and many area residents went without power.
