Man who shot father appears in court
MOHAWK — The 20-year-old man who allegedly shot his father in the chest killing him appeared in Mohawk Town Court on Tuesday in which the case is getting ready to be presented to a grand jury.
Montgomery County District Attorney Kelli McCoski said Alexander Eller appeared in court so Judge Curt Woodcock could check on his status.
“It’s getting ready to be presented to a grand jury,” McCoski said.
Eller, of 571 Route 334 was charged with first-degree manslaughter earlier this month for allegedly shooting his dad, 56-year-old Dallas Eller, in the chest.
According to officials, Montgomery County Dispatchers received a 911 call at approximately 5:43 a.m. on Jan. 6 from Eller who said he “just shot his father” at his residence.
Upon arrival, state police and Montgomery County sheriff’s deputies located Dallas Eller suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.
Greater Amsterdam Volunteer Ambulance Corps. attempted to revive Dallas Eller, but were unable to. He was declared dead at the scene.
According to police, Eller had been living in a camper behind the home and a preliminary investigation determined he entered the home and allegedly fired one round into his father’s chest.
Eller was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 cash bail or $50,000 bail bond.
Police believe the alleged shooting was an intentional act, and the motive is still unknown.
“I’m not sure anyone knows the motive,” McCoski said.
