Johnstown police seeking robbery suspect

JOHNSTOWN — City police are on the lookout for a man who robbed the Nickelback Bottle and Can Return Center Tuesday.

The Johnstown Police Department on Wednesday issued a news release indicating that the 205 N. Perry St. business was robbed about 4:22 p.m. Tuesday.

The release said police officers were dispatched to Nickelback Bottle and Can Return Center for a report of a robbery, which had just occurred. Members of the Johnstown Police Department, Fulton County Sheriff’s Office and state police responded to the scene “within seconds.”

Police said officers were told the suspect fled the scene on foot, northbound on North Perry Street. Through video surveillance, city police obtained a clothing description of the suspect, and verified he removed a cashbox from the business.

An initial description of the suspect was: a white male, five-foot five to five-foot eight inches tall, with glasses, black shirt, jogging pants and a black mask.

The release said a state police K9 assisted in tracking the subject, which led to a local residence. Police said that after a thorough search, the suspect was not located. Through interviews with witnesses and local residents, the Johnstown Police Department was able to obtain the name of a possible suspect, although he remains at-large.

Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Police Chief David Gilbo didn’t return a call for comment Wednesday.
