Flag event slated for Sunday
PATTERSONVILLE –An official flag retirement ceremony will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Pattersonville Volunteer Fire Department, 5279 Pattersonville-Rynex Corners Road, according to a news release from Assemblyman Angelo Santabarbara’s office.
The ceremony is for the proper retirement of hundreds of damaged, worn and unserviceable American flags collected throughout the year from communities represented by Santabarbara.
The event includes the assistance of Pattersonville Volunteer Fire Department Members, AMVETS Post 35, local Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, Marine Corp League, VFW Post 1895 and the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Rotterdam Lodge 2157
To ensure the proper retirement of damaged or worn American flags, Santabarbara collects hundreds of unserviceable flags from the communities in his Assembly District each year. His office partners with local veterans and organizations each year for the official Flag Retirement Ceremony.
“The American Flag remains a living piece of history and a source of pride and unity for all Americans,” Santabarbara said in the news release. “This important ceremony ensures unserviceable American flags are collected each year and retired with dignity and respect.”
