Lukoil shop burglarized
GLOVERSVILLE — Police today are investigating a burglary that occurred early this morning at a gas station and convenience store located on North Main Street.
According to Lt. Brad Schaffer, owners of the Lukoil at 394-396 N. Main St. discovered the gas station had been burglarized while opening the shop today around 5 a.m.
Schaffer said the shop was closed when at least one individual entered the building by force at approximately 3:55 a.m. and took an as yet undetermined quantity of U.S. currency and cigarettes.
Members of the city police detective division were on the scene this morning processing recovered evidence, developing a complete inventory of the stolen goods and reviewing surveillance footage captured inside of the convenience store and on city-owned cameras in the surrounding area.
With detectives still actively securing and processing evidence this morning, Schaffer declined to describe how police believe the suspect approached or entered the building. He added that more information on the incident, including a surveillance photo of the involved suspect, may be released later today.
“We will be following up on leads in advance of a release,” Schaffer said.
While no arrests had been made as of this morning, Schaffer said that police do not believe there is any threat to the public at large in connection with the burglary.
“It appears to just be the business being targeted for property therein,” Schaffer said.
