Board approves tower upgrade purchases

JOHNSTOWN — Purchases to improve tower communications for the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department were approved last week by the Board of Supervisors.

The board authorized purchase of four LED monitors at a cost of $7,400 for use in the sheriff’s Dispatch Center on Route 29.

Sheriff Richard Giardino requested the new monitors to replace broken monitors.

Supervisors also approved a contract with Spectrum Communications of Amsterdam for purchase of a dedicated internet connection for a live Communications Center video feed. The internet connection will provide an uninterrupted video feed connection from school district security cameras within Fulton County.

The county will pay an installation fee of $100 and a monthly fee of $60.

In other recent board business at the County Office Building:

∫ Supervisors awarded an $84,654 bid to Liftech JCB of Schenectady for the purchase of a new compact loader for use in the county Solid Waste Department. The loader will be used in conjunction with single stream processing.

∫ The board authorized a grant application through the state’s Consolidated Funding Application process for a proposed 2020 capital project through the county’s SMART Waters initiative identifying a Route 30 sewer feasibility study.

“I think it’s a wonderful thing,” said Johnstown 3rd Ward Supervisor Jack Callery. “It’s about time.”

Callery praised the SMART Waters work the county, and added that the Great Sacandaga Lake is one of the county’s best assets.

∫ An on-call rate was established for the county Public Defender’s Office providing counsel at arraignment. The one-call rate was set at $100 per day; and $200 if a call-out is required.

∫ Supervisors authorized county Office of Emergency Management Office purchases of CCTV and interoperable communications equipment with part of $25,665 in state Office of Homeland security and Emergency Services funding. Equipment will include network video decoders, HDMI switch, desktop and bank charger.
