One dies, one hurt in fall from roof
CHESTER — Two men fell 20 feet to the ground off a roof leading to the death of one and the other to be seriously injured.
According to police, Gary Bogdan, 55, of Hadley and his 27-year-old nephew, Adam Bogdan, of Broadalbin, had been repairing a roof Wednesday morning when they both fell. Warren County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched at approximately 8:30 a.m. to 255 Knapp Hill Road, Chester, for a male who had fallen from a roof while removing the existing shingles.
Gary Bogdan succumbed to his injuries from the fall. Chestertown Fire and North Warren Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and attempted resuscitation efforts on Gary Bogdan, but he was declared dead at the scene.
Adam Bogdan sustained injury to his arm and possible internal injuries. He was transported to Glens Falls Hospital by Warrensburg Emergency Medical Services.
Investigator Steven Stockdale, with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit said they are unsure whether Bogdan remains in the hospital as of Friday morning.
“His injuries didn’t appear to be significant enough to require lengthy hospitalization, but it’s possible he’s still there,” he said.
Gary Bogdan and his family had recently purchased the two-story Cape Cod style home which sat dormant and unfinished for 27 years. Gary Bogdan and his nephew, Adam Bogdan, were scraping off the roof shingles while standing on a plank that was anchored into the roof. According to police, at some point while scraping off the roof shingles, Gary Bogdan may have struck the bracket with the tool and sheared off the nails that were holding his bracket into place, causing it to dislodge. Both men fell 20 feet to the ground below.
The accident is being investigated by Investigator Russ Lail with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations unit.
