Gloversville Memorial day parade program, line up

GLOVERSVILLE — The Gloversville Memorial Day parade will take place Monday.

There will be six divisions and 45 units taking part in the annual Gloversville Memorial Day parade to take place at 9:30 a.m.

The parade will begin at Sixth Avenue and North Main Street, travel east on Sixth Avenue to Kingsboro Avenue, then south on Kingsboro Avenue to Fulton Street, then west on Fulton Street to the entrance of the Prospect Hill Cemetery where the parade will disband.

At the completion of the parade, the memorial services will be held at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument at the cemetery. All color guard units are asked to assemble at the monument.

All division commanders are asked to be at their assigned streets by 9 a.m. and all units by 9:15 a.m.

As in past years, the parade committee has asked the participating units not to throw out candy to the spectators but to pass it out. This will help to avoid having children run out into the street and possibly being hit by a vehicle that is in the parade.

Any units not listed in the lineup and wanting to participate are asked to call any of the following: Linda Bullock, Linda Fisher, Michael Perrella, James Schrader, Todd Mercer, Brian Perrella or Debbie Finkle.

At the conclusion of the parade, a memorial service will be held at the Soldiers and Sailors monument in Old Prospect Hill Cemetery. All units are asked to go to the main entrance to the cemetery on Fulton Street.

The program will begin with the invocation given by Pastor John Dutcher of the Bleecker Street Church of Christ.

The Master of Ceremonies is Keith Shoemaker.

The Pledge of Allegiance will be recited.

The Master of Ceremonies will introduce the Gloversville Mayor Vincent DeSantis.

The Gettysburg Address will be delivered by Gloversville High student Jaleah Tirse.

General John Logan’s Memorial Day orders will be read by a member of the 4-H group.

The Gloversville High School band will render a selection under the direction of director John Savage.

Bill Rowback will deliver the main address. Following the main address, a moment of silence will be observed for all deceased loved ones.

Following the moment of silence, taps will be performed by Gloversville High School band member Zak Nikalov. As taps are being performed, the wreath laying ceremony will take place with the wreaths being placed at the base of the Soldiers and Sailors monument by the Scout wreath bearers.

The Gloversville High School band will perform The National Anthem.

The program will conclude with a benediction by Dutcher.
