Man flees; faces drug charges
AMSTERDAM — A city man faces drug charges after fleeing from state police on Tuesday.
Eric L. Sumpter, 25, of was charged by state police in Fonda with fourth-degree criminal possession of marijuana, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, second-degree attempted burglary and resisting arrest.
According to a news release, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in the City of Amsterdam for a traffic infraction when Sumpter allegedly failed to comply and a pursuit was initiated.
Troopers pursued Sumpter a short distance before he lost control, striking a snowbank and road sign disabling his vehicle.
Sumpter then fled on foot and attempted to enter into a residence by breaking a window. Troopers were able to catch up with Sumpter during his attempt to enter the residence. He was placed in custody after a brief struggle and was found in possession of a quantity of cocaine and marijuana.
Sumpter was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court and remanded to Montgomery County jail without bail.
