Artist reception slated for Thursday night

GLOVERSVILLE — Area residents will have a chance to take in the Paul Nigra Center for Creative Arts’ 2019 Winter Art Show while mingling with the creators of the featured artwork during a meet the artists reception Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

The 2019 Winter Art Show features 122 pieces in a variety of mediums including paintings, photography and mixed media from 43 new and returning artists.

“I think it’s a very exciting show, it has a little bit of something for everyone and it has some artwork things that I’ve never seen before which I think is really exciting,” Paul Nigra Center Community Gallery Curator Brenda Dwyer said on Friday.

Dwyer said the show includes a wide range of pieces including gorgeous oil painted landscapes, abstract artwork, intricate paintings made with wax and more.

“There is some extraordinary talent in this show, you can see it in the depth of the paintings and the subjects. It’s just a wonderful show,” Dwyer said.

The annual art show was curated with submissions from skilled professional and amateur artists living locally, around the state and across the country. Members of Lexington’s Creative Expressions program are among the talented featured artists exhibiting their work.

The show will be on display in the Paul Nigra Center’s gallery from now through March 26 where the regular gallery admission fee for non-members is $5. The majority of the featured pieces on display are also for sale.

“If you’re looking for a statement piece or something to update your office we have it,” Dwyer said.

Admittance to Thursday’s meet the artists reception is free, offering art lovers the unique opportunity to take in the show while discussing the featured works with the people who made them.

“It’s a wonderful social event to get people together,” Dwyer said. “The artists are so diverse, it’s wonderful to get this mix of people from all over together.”

An awards presentation will be held during the reception, recognizing first, second and third place selections for best in show. Award winners receive a one year membership to the arts center and a monetary prize made possible through the donations of supporters of the Paul Nigra Center.

“There are so many exciting pieces I don’t think anyone is going to be disappointed by this year’s winter art show,” Dwyer said.
