GJSD BOE names David Wood director of facilities II

JOHNSTOWN — David Wood, previously second in command of the Greater Johnstown School District’s Facilities Department, will now lead the department.

The Board of Education on Thursday at Knox Junior High School named Wood as director of facilities II, which is the title for heading buildings and grounds. Wood has not only been second in command of the district’s buildings and grounds crews, but has worked heavily on the district’s capital projects in recent years.

The resolution approved Thursday indicates that Wood was appointed for a 12-month period, effective Feb. 1. The resolution also authorizes the board president to execute an agreement with Wood now that he has received board approval. His salary was not released by the board.

Wood replaces Leo Loveless, the former longtime department director, who announced in October he was retiring.

“Leo Loveless will be retiring at the end of the month,” said Superintendent Patricia Kilburn. “We appreciate all he’s done for us all those years.”

The board also took other personnel action following an 11-minute, closed-door executive session whose purpose was partially listed as “employment history of an individual.” Other personnel action Thursday included:

∫ Retirements of elementary teachers Patricia Robinson and MariJo Quinn were accepted by the board. Both retirements are effective June 30.

∫ The board approved the resignation of Michael Heberer, as a teaching assistant, effective Jan. 12.

∫ Child care leaves of absence were granted for: Jessica Mucilli, school psychologist; Elizabeth Diaz, teaching assistant; and Jennifer Claus, special education teacher. A leave of absence was approved for Kimberly Park, elementary teacher, for no more than 12 weeks in accordance with the Family Medical Leave Act.

∫ Appointments made by the board included: Ashley Armer, extended leave substitute music teacher; Michael Satterlee, substitute teacher; Elizabeth Woods, substitute teacher; Richard O’Brien, Winterguard assistant — $1,983 stipend; Cyndi Cromer, Physical Education Department coordinator — $2,150 stipend; Nicole Bradt, school secretary; Meghan Oare, music accompanist; Nancy Gill, clerical substitute; Tyler Mickan, cleaner; Barney Hayes, long term substitute teaching assistant; and Ann Stefka, music accompanist.
