Man facing rape charges
AMSTERDAM — City police arrested a man at a Jay Street residence on Friday for allegedly forcefully raping two teenage girls over the course of two years.
Mark W. Culbertson, 36, of 312 Grand St. was charged with two counts of first-degree rape, a class B felony, and two counts of first-degree criminal sex act, a class B felony, according to a press release.
On Friday, the police department detective bureau said they received a report of two teens — ages 14 and 13 — who had been forced to have sexual intercourse with Culbertson.
Following investigation, police discovered Culbertson had been forcing the teens to have sexual contact with him on numerous occasions from July 2016 through August 2018 at his residence in the city.
APD detectives along with members of the APD patrol division located Culbertson hiding in a closet at a friend’s residence on Jay Street.
Culbertson was arrested and transported to Amsterdam Police headquarters and processed on the felony charges. He was arraigned in City Court by Judge Lisa Lorman and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility without bail.
Assisting with the investigation was the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and Montgomery County District Attorney Kelli McCoski.
