DA looks fill vacancy in office

JOHNSTOWN — Fulton County District Attorney Chad Brown has one vacancy, and possibly another pending one, in his office.

Brown made a request last week to the Board of Supervisors’ Finance Committee to fill an assistant district attorney vacancy created through the Friday resignation of Christopher Stanyon.

Brown said candidates for the vacant position include both external and internal candidates. If an internal candidate is promoted, he said that would leave a vacancy in the fourth assistant district attorney position. In that case, Brown said he may have to ask supervisors to fill that position.

“These positions are connected to various funding and revenue streams, and vital to the administration of justice in the county,” Brown told the committee.

The committee supported Brown filling vacancies in his office. The full board is due to take final action Monday.

Acting on other county vacancies:

∫ Supervisors authorized backfill of a transfer station position, at the request of Department of Solid Waste Deputy Director of Operations David Rhodes.

“The funds are in the budget,” Rhodes said.

He said one of two Caroga Transfer Station attendants submitted their resignation, effective Aug. 10. He said the $13.38 per hour to start position is non-benefit, alternating every other week.

∫ Department of Social Services Commissioner Anne Solar also received committee approval to fill three positions — caseworker, senior typist and typist. The full board will vote Monday.

The caseworker position — with a starting rate of $19.44 per hour — is a temporary one for the Child Protective Unit. The current employee has accepted a permanent caseworker job with the county Office for Aging/Youth. In this job, the DSS caseworker investigates child protective reports and assesses safety of children, implements safety plans, and initiates county Family Court intervention as needed.

The senior typist temporary position will be paid $17.54 an hour. The current appointee is scheduled for maternity leave during the busy Home Energy Assistance Program season, Solar said. The typist temporary position pays $14.05 per hour. The position involves performing basic office tasks, phone reception, copies, scanning and check-in window reception.

All three DSS positions are reimbursed from 70 to 77 percent.
