Bank not robbed

Rumors of NBT Bank robbery unfounded

GLOVERSVILLE — Rumors that a local bank was robbed earlier this week are unfounded, according to state police.

On Wednesday state Trooper Kerra Burns said that a citizen contacted state police after discovering that the deposit box at the NBT Bank located on Second Avenue Extension wasn’t closing all the way on Monday around 5 p.m.

Police contacted the branch manager who determined that the deposit box was wedged open, because it was over filled.

Burns said there was no report that any money was taken and the incident was classified by police as an “aid call.”

“It was not a burglary or anything, it just was not functioning properly,” Burns said. “No crime was committed and no further police action was involved.”

Burns said bank employees were able to resolve the issue with the deposit box without further police assistance.
