Skimmer found on First Choice bank ATM

First Choice finds device at Hales Mills Road location, notified security

GLOVERSVILLE — A credit union here has reported it discovered one of its ATMs has been tampered with to illicitly obtain card information.

First Choice Financial Credit Union reported on its website that its ATM at 355 Hales Mills Road detected tampering, shut down and notified the credit union’s security-monitoring company. The credit union said someone had fitted a skimmer over the ATM card slot to collect information on inserted cards but the company said it wasn’t sure how many cards had been affected at this time.

“We’re investigating and have many leads,” said Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino. “We think it’s an isolated incident.”

He said the FBI is also investigating because a financial institution is involved and the offense is covered by federal statutes.

Anyone with information about the incident should call the sheriff’s office at (518) 736-2119.

The credit union and FBI have not responded to inquiries by the Leader-Herald deadline.
