Spoken-word poet to be at FM Thursday

JOHNSTOWN — Fulton Montgomery Community College will be hosting to spoken word poet, musician and alumni of Canada’s Top 20 Under 20 during two special event on Thursday.

Wali “Flo” Shah will be speaking at 12:30 p.m. at the FMCC Theater.

Shah will be also speaking at the FMCC Student Union large lounge at 7 p.m. for a forum on Islamophobia.

Both events are open to the public.

Shah will additionally be visiting Amsterdam High School on Wednesday and Gloversville High School on Friday to perform original lyrical poems and narrate his personal account of an at-risk youth for students.

The Mental Health Association states these performances will have a focus on mental health, bullying and mentorship.

According to the Mental Health Association in Fulton and montgomery Counties Shah has been featured on MTV alongside Selena Gomez and freestyled with Grammy-winning hip-hop artist Kendrick Lamar.

Shah has spoken at TEDxThunder Bay Talk, which is available for view on TEDx Talks Youtube page.
