Man killed in motorcycle crash
JOHNSTOWN ó A Gloversville motorcyclist was killed this morning in the town, state police reported today.
A state police news release indicated 34-year-old Edward P. Laporte was killed in the fatal crash, his body found at about 7:44 a.m. today. Troopers responded to a single vehicle motorcycle crash with an unresponsive victim.
The release said that at the scene of the crash on Progress Road, one-half mile southeast of Route 29A, responding troopers found Laporte lying in the tree line off the roadway, along with his 2010 Yamaha motorcycle a distance away from him. He was unresponsive and Fulton County coroner responded and pronounced him deceased, troopers said.
An investigation has so far determined that LaPorte was travelling northwest on Progress Road when for an unknown reason, he failed to negotiate a curve, exited the roadway, and struck a tree. Both he and the motorcycle continued into the tree line, troopers said. The exact time of the crash is unknown at this time, but the victim was last seen just before midnight.
The incident was reported by a passerby this morning who had spotted the motorcycle in the tree line, the release said.
State police are conducting an ongoing investigation. An autopsy is slated for Wednesday.
