Man shows up to wrong address, DWI

AMSTERDAM — On July 19, 2021, the New York State Police in Fonda arrested 33-year-old Joseph G. Olmstead of Amsterdam for aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor.

State police were called to an Amsterdam residence Monday night, after the homeowner reported that there was an unknown intoxicated male in his driveway. The male, later identified as Olmstead, pulled into the homeowner’s driveway believing he was at an address for a party. When the homeowner told him that there was no party and he had the wrong address, Olmstead became belligerent.

When a trooper arrived and spoke with Olmstead, they could smell alcohol on his breath and observed signs that he was intoxicated. Olmstead failed roadside sobriety tests and was taken into custody. He was transported to Fonda where he provided a breath sample of 0.23 percent blood-alcohol content.

Olmstead was issued an appearance ticket for Amsterdam Town Court on Aug. 17, and was released to a sober third party.
