Blue Christmas prayer service set

BROADALBIN — The First Presbyterian Church, 54 W. Main St., is now closed to in-person worship but will continue to live stream and post on Facebook. Sunday morning worship is at 10 a.m. but is posted on Facebook so it can be viewed anytime, according to a news release.

Live stream of a Blue Christmas prayer service will be at 6 p.m. today led by the Rev. Linda M. Martin.

This service is supportive of people who have suffered a loss during the past year through death, relationships struggles, sickness, estrangement, and/or job loss. Whatever one’s struggle is this holiday season, there is a place at the church.

The morning worship on Sunday and the Christmas Eve service will include recorded music by some members of the choir; singers were recorded individually and voices were later mixed and recorded. The songs are “There is a Child” by Nancy Price and Don Besig and “Christmas is Coming” by Joel Raney.

The Christmas Eve service will be pre-recorded and posted on Facebook at 5 p.m.

People are encouraged to drive by the church at night to see the Advent Christmas Tree display next to the church. Each week of Advent one more tree is lighted. All five trees will be lit on Christmas Eve, when the Christ Tree is lit. All of the trees and lights were donated by members and friends of the church to be a blessing for all.
