Annual gun buy back program set

AMSTERDAM — The Amsterdam Police Department and Trinity Lutheran Church, in an effort to make Amsterdam a safer community, will hold their sixth annual gun buy back program from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 42 Guy Park Ave., according to a news release.

The working handguns will be accepted, no questions asked, in return for a $100 gift card. The assault weapon will also be accepted. The BB, Air Soft or non-working handguns turned in will not be eligible for a gift card. The handguns can also be turned in after hours or by calling and making an appointment with Pastor William Hodgetts at (518) 842-6691.

Over the past five years, this event has resulted in a successful event and it is hoped this will continue. Anyone who would like to donate to this program can contact Hodgetts at the above number or the Amsterdam Police Benevolent Association at (518) 842-1100.
