Veterans Day virtual event planned
BALLSTON SPA — The annual veterans ball, like many charitable events, has fallen victim to COVID-19. However, the Veterans & Community Housing Coalition invites everyone to participate in, an evening with and for the veterans, a virtual event from 7 to 9 p.m. Veterans Day, according to a news release.
The event will be held in partnership with Caffe Lena on YouTube and Facebook Live. Visit: www.vchcny.org for links to the event.
Viewers will see and hear the stories of men and women who served the country. These veterans are the Americans who served the country from World War II to the present. Also featured will be music from local bands and performers, many of whom are veterans.
An online auction will run through Nov. 18. Sign up to participate at www.vchcny.org. All items were donated by community members and businesses, with starting bids below the market value. They include 1959 and 1960 New York Yankees team autographed baseballs, golf at Saratoga National Golf Club and other local golf courses; an Apple watch; ring doorbell; a drone; gift certificates (Amazon, local restaurants and other venues); a Michael Kors purse, and more.
Cheryl Hage-Perez, executive director of VCHC commented, “Veterans Day is the one day we must show our gratitude and appreciation to the men and women who served us all. This is the only event we’ll have this year to recognize the sacrifices that they made, while supporting an organization whose mission is to help homeless veterans and those struggling to return to civilian life.”
