Amsterdam police issue reminder

AMSTERDAM — The following is for the Amsterdam Police Department, according to a news release.

The 2020-2021 school year has begun. The following are some points to review to keep everyone safe.

¯ All drivers are reminded that many children will be walking in the city, some of them attending school for the first time. All motorists should make a conscious effort to drive cautiously. The police patrols will be giving extra attention to speeding and passing school bus violations.

¯ All parents should remind their children that if their child becomes lost or scared, the police officers are their friends and are there to help them. The child should be assured that they are not in trouble and that the officer will help them get home safely. All parents should also remind their children to only cross streets at designated points and not to dart into traffic.

¯ All persons should report suspicious individuals or vehicles that are near bus stops, school crossings, etc.

Police Chief John Thomas asks all concerned parents and citizens to help the APD make this a safe school year.
