Museum’s collection available online

UTICA — Visit mwpai.org and view more than 5,000 works of art, spanning three centuries, through the Munson Williams Proctor Arts Institute’s online collection. This site provides virtual access to much of the permanent collection of fine and decorative arts. Many of the entries include scholarly interpretation, bibliography, and exhibition histories.

New and interesting programs and methods of engaging with art can be accessed through Munson-Williams’ social media on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

These online programs and events include works from the museum’s collection, many of which are rarely on view, are posted daily.

Performing Arts Spotlights are short video messages from Director of Performing Arts Bob Mortis. Each segment features his suggestions for ways people at home can continue to engage with performances and films including ideas for finding online performances and links to helpful resources. These are also on YouTube.

Up-close examinations feature curatorial commentary on works from the exhibition “Celebrating Suffrage,” which commemorates the centennial of the 19th Amendment by showcasing more than 200 years of art created by women.

The Community Arts Education faculty are posting fun art project ideas for youngsters.

The video series “Outside the Frame” is available through YouTube, and features museum curators giving in-depth and behind-the-scenes explorations of works from the collection.

The popular program “Art and Yoga” is streamed Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. on Facebook.

PrattMWP College of Art and Design social media features works by freshman and sophomore students.

Artists, art students, and other creatives can share what they’re working on by sending photos of their work to cbostick@mwpai.edu. Submitted works will be shared through Munson-Williams’ social media.
