Galway library to host history seminar

GALWAY — The Galway Public Library, 2112 East St., will host “Through the Mire: A Look at the Environmental History of the Erie Canal” at 11 a.m. Feb. 22, according to a news release.

The event will be presented by David Brooks, education director of Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site. The presentation will discuss the construction of the Erie Canal in 1817, how the vastness of the project and the environment that it would cut through became its largest obstacle, and how people of that era viewed their environment.
