Phone scam targets veterans

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Officials in Saratoga County are warning of a phone scam targeting veterans, according to the Fulton County Veterans Service Agency.

The Veteran Services for Saratoga County says veterans have received calls from an organization identifying themselves as the “Veterans Services Department.”

The caller says they are “seeking to assist with veterans benefits” and requests identifying information from the veteran. The caller ID displays the phone number (518) 413-8843 from Bolton Landing.

The Veteran Services for Saratoga County says the calls seem scripted and appeared as if they may have come from a call center.

Veterans Services reminds veterans that the Department of Veterans Affairs, the state Division of Veterans Services, or local county veterans service agencies will not cold call veterans and request social security numbers or other sensitive information over the phone.
