Gloversville native earns master’s degree

SYRACUSE — Mary Walrath, daughter of Nancy and Mark Walrath of Gloversville, has earned a master’s degree in arts journalism at from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communication at Syracuse University where she participated in the Goldring Arts Journalism Program.

She is a 2014 graduate of Gloversville High School and a 2018 graduate of Nazareth College, Rochester.

Walrath completed several internships, including one at Street Sense, Washington, D.C., where she wrote an article on homelessness that earned her the Society of Professional Journalists D.C. Dateline Award for the best non-breaking coverage and best series.

She is a member of Lambda Pi Eta, Phi Eta Sigma and Pi Gamma Mu honor societies.

Walrath has begun working in a position as the arts and leisure editor at the Scarsdale Inquirer, Scarsdale.
