Canal Clean Sweep slated for April 27
FORT HUNTER — The Canal Clean Sweep will be held on Saturday, April 27, from 8 a.m. to noon at Schoharie Crossing State Historic Site, 129 Schoharie St. and Yankee Hill Lock on Queen Anne Road.
The clean up is a volunteer project organized by the Friends of Schoharie Crossing and will clear a new trail from Yankee Hill to South Amsterdam along the banks of the Mohawk River. Register on the Parks and Trails New York website in the “ticket” section.
An informal trail has connected the site to South Amsterdam for years, and the organization has been granted the OK through the Adopt-A-Trail program to create this as a formal trail. It will parallel the Mohawk River and Canalway bikepath, however this natural-based trail will provide a different connection to nature along the river and through the trees.
The Friends of Schoharie Crossing will also be hosting anyone who may want to walk the trails that already exist on site, cleaning up any debris, trash, etc. that may be in the way.
