Sheriff to be the guest speaker Oct. 2
CAROGA LAKE — President Grace Eglin called the Nick Stoner Seniors meeting on Tuesday, to order at noon followed by “The Lord’s Prayer.”
Hannah Snell narrated an inspirational poem written by Linda Saglimbeni from the book of religious poems she had published. Eglin led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance and Hello to your Neighbors.
Eglin noted on Oct. 2, Fulton County Sheriff Richard Giardino will be the guest speaker.
Marion Snell gave the secretary’s report; there was one correction and it was passed. Shirley Holliday read the treasury report and it was passed.
There is no refreshment committee for the next meeting. The group will be attending their 80 plus luncheon at noon Sept. 18, at the Saltsman’s Hotel.
Judy Elmendorf gave the sunshine report; she sent out several cards for this month.
Janice McLaughlin gave the pen pal report and sent a sheet around for anyone wanting to participate. This year there are nine students so far in the class. McLaughlin gave the trip report there is still money owed for the Vermont Country Store trip on Oct. 9.
Linda Rhinehart gave the Adopt a Highway project report. It will be put off until spring.
The group’s anniversary luncheon will be at noon Oct. 16, at the Vrooman’s Hotel. The cut off date is Oct. 2, and the cost is $15. The menu will include roast beef and chicken and all the fixings and will be served family style.
Sharon Fenstermacher took attendance and sold raffle tickets. There were 25 members and three guests present.
The meeting adjourned at 12:40 p.m. After the meeting, the raffle was held. The winners were Mary Lou Paterson and Rhinehart. The refreshments were served by Kathy Powell, McLoughlin and Myrtle Dermott for Louise Stock. Powell called bingo.
