Absentee ballots available

BROADALBIN — The Broadalbin-Perth Central School District qualified residents can request an absentee ballot to participate in the May 18, budget vote and board elections. According to the New York State Board of Elections, the risk of contracting or spreading a communicable disease like COVID-19 remains a valid reason to request an absentee ballot, according to a news release.

The registered voters who want to vote by absentee ballot must fill out an application. The applications can be obtained in person from District Clerk Georgia Baldwin in the district office, or by calling (518) 954-2501.

The voters who want their absentee ballots mailed to them must return their application to the district office by May 12. The voters who plan to pick up their absentee ballot must return their application by May 17.

The applications for regular absentee ballots will be accepted starting today.

The state education law also makes special provisions for absentee voting for members of the community who are serving in the military. The military voters can request to receive their absentee ballot applications and ballots by mail, e-mail, or fax. The military absentee ballots may be returned by mail or in person. All requests for military absentee ballot applications must be received by Friday.

All absentee ballots, including military absentee ballots, must be returned to the district office by 5 p.m. on May 18.

The qualified residents who want to vote in person can do so from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 18, in the Robert C. Munn Gymnasium at BP Junior-Senior High School, 100 Bridge St. This is the only polling location this school year; the voting will no longer take place at BP Elementary School (Perth campus).
