Indoors garage sale planned by AAUW

JOHNSTOWN — The Friends of the local branch of the American Association of University Women will hold a garage sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today, Saturday and Sunday indoors at the Johnstown County Fleamarket, 83 Briggs St., to benefit the construction of a statue of suffragist Elizabeth Cady Stanton. Those attending are asked to wear a mask, according to a news release.

The statue will be placed in the Sir William Johnstown Park on Main Street in remembrance of Elizabeth Cady Stanton who was born and raised in Johnstown. The statue was commissioned by the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s Consortium to celebrate 100 years of Suffrage for Women, put Elizabeth’s birthplace on the National Map and on the New York state History Trail.

Due to COVID-19, installation of the statue has been delayed until spring of 2021. Local organizations and individuals have been donating toward this undertaking. Donations to the statue can still be made by contacting ECSWC Vice President Sandra Maceyka.
