Hamilton County honors senior
WELLS –Alice Megargle is Hamilton County Senior of the Year. She is originally from the Potsdam/Canton area, and attended Potsdam University, pursuing a degree in education. She has held elementary teaching positions in New York, Minnesota, Missouri, and Ohio, until her retirement in 2000. Megargle and her husband, Robert, have been residents in Wells for 35 years and “full time” residents for the last 10. Megargle is some part of virtually every organization in Wells –one can always see that serving others brings her joy. It is very often that she rises to leadership positions in the organizations and has served as an officer and board member many times.
Organizations do not succeed unless there is a “core” of support who will be available to lead and assist in the work that is required for the group to operate. While many participate, one can observe that there are individuals who are the “foundation” of success and Megargle is one of those people. First to arrive, last to leave, willing to fill the gaps that frequently occur along an organization’s path. Wells is known to be an active town and it’s easy to see why when we have people such as her.
Megargle has volunteered in many organizations over the years, some of which include the Wells Seniors, Wells Library, Wells Improvement Group, Wells Garden Club, Wells Historical Society, Wells Methodist Church, Vacation Bible School, “CROP” walk, Ladies retreat, Osteobusters, RSVP Program, Home Delivered Meals driver, and guest reader at Wells Central School
Megargle’s take on volunteering? “Helping others is the most rewarding activity one can experience.”
