Gloversville Citizens Band considers its season

GLOVERSVILLE — The Gloversville Citizens Band has postponed the Summer Concerts in the Park series due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The board of directors are following the phased opening procedures that have been put in place in New York state, according to a news release.

The Gloversville Citizens Band applied for a community arts grant from Saratoga Arts for this year’s summer season. It was awarded $1,000. The guidance from the grant coordinator allows for grant recipients to use their funds in 2021 if necessary. Currently the board is considering options to hold a concert in the later months of this year.

The outdoor concerts are a tradition in Gloversville going back to the mid-1900s. They are always free and provide audiences with classical and contemporary band music performed by local professional musicians.

The concerts depend on donations from businesses, individuals and grant awards. Anyone interested in making a tax-deductible donation can send it to: The Gloversville Citizens Band, P.O. Box 984, Gloversville, N.Y. 12078. The organization continues to need volunteers to produce the concert series; anyone interested can contact the band at the above address.
