Eclectic Society Study Club to meet

Afternoon tea will include reading of a paper on suffragette

JOHNSTOWN — The Eclectic Society Study Club, in concert with the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s Consortium, will be holding an afternoon tea on Saturday, Nov. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, 37 S. Market St. in the city.

The event theme will be “a meeting with a study club.”

This is a chance for the community to find out what women’s study clubs are all about.

A paper on women’s rights activist and suffragette Susan B. Anthony will be presented by Jahnn Gibson

The Eclectic Society Study Club is a member of the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Women’s Consortium and this program is one of many this year celebrating the upcoming 100-year anniversary of American women gaining the right to vote through the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution on Aug. 18, 1920.

The Eclectic Society topic for the year is women suffragists. During the year, each member will present a report about a different woman.

Tea, coffee, and sweet refreshments will be available.

The suggested donation is $10 and all are welcome.

Those attending should use the Clinton Street entrance. There is an elevator at the site available for those who need assistance.

Attendance is a limited to 56. Reservations are requested to be in by Wednesday.
