“A Team Has No Name” was the winning group at the recent Trivia for Charity community outreach event held by the Amsterdam-Gloversville-Johnstown branch of the American Association of University Women.

The team with the highest total points after three rounds was the winner of a $100 donation to the charity of their choice. A Team Has No Name contributed their winnings to the Montgomery County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Team members consisted of Lisa and Bob Harvey, Steven Kozakiewicz, Liz Mevnier, and Al Kozakiewicz.

Other teams were composed of members of the Eclectic Society, the Elizabeth Cady Stanton Hometown Association, the Johnstown Historical Society, Fulton County Museum, Beechnut Foods and Gloversville Middle School as well as AAUW.

Additionally, raffles for AAUW membership renewals were held. Winning the full membership for 2018-19 was Bonnie Van Wie. Reduced renewals went to Nancy Brown and Liz Russo. The memberships were earned by the branch as part of the Shape the Future Membership program offered by national AAUW.

The next meeting of the Amsterdam-Gloversville-Johnstown AAUW branch will take place at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 12, with a potluck dinner at Mayfield Yacht Club, 217 Lakeside Drive, Mayfield.

This final branch meeting of the 2017-18 year will include induction of new officers, recognition of AAUW volunteers, and a chance to meet scholarship winners. Those attending are asked to bring a dish to share, park behind the big red barn, and come in the back door of the clubhouse. Dress is informal. RSVP to Jahnn Gibson by June 9 by calling (518) 705-2835.

Although the branch will not hold meetings of the whole this summer, several members will attend the state AAUW summer leadership conference in Cazenovia. A program planning meeting will held at a date to be determined to organize the monthly meetings that run from September 2018 to June 2019. The Branch Book Club and Day Trippers travel group will also meet during the summer.

Members are reminded that it is time to renew. Checks for $85 should be made payable to AAUW and sent to treasurer Irene Collins, 322 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam 12095. AAUW is open to anyone holding an associate or equivalent (for example, registered nurse), a baccalaureate or a higher degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
