Study abroad program set for FMCC
JOHNSTOWN — Many of us have dreamed of spending St. Patrick’s Day in Ireland, kissing the Blarney Stone; driving through the peaceful and serene country side of Ireland, Wales, and England on the way to the beautiful cities of Dublin, Oxford and London. This trip with Fulton-Montgomery Community College will make those dreams come true. Everyone is welcome to take advantage of this opportunity of traveling to Europe in spring 2019 with school officials.
The FM Biz Hub is offering an International Business: Study Abroad opportunity for students to study and work with companies located in Ireland and England. This is a special topics elective that includes an experiential learning objective with a study abroad component to Ireland — Killarney, Blarney and Dublin — North Wales, and England –Stratford, Oxford and London — during Spring Break 2019.
Students will study similarities and differences in the cultural, political and business practices of the United States, Europe and Great Britain. Business students will be visiting and studying at corporations and startups in Dublin and London. Participants will also receive guided tours of popular sites on route. The trip is open to the community; taking the class is not required to attend the trip.
The itinerary includes flying into Ireland overnight; meeting with the tour director and traveling to Killarney; visiting the Kerry Bog Village Museum; traveling to Blarney, then Dublin; perhaps seeing the Rock of Cashel, the Blarney Castle, enjoying a traditional Guinness stew dinner in Dublin, seeing the Georgian squares, O’Connell Street, St. Stephen’s Green, Phoenix Park, the Book of Kells at Trinity College, and visiting St. Patrick’s Cathedral; traveling via ferry to Holyhead, traveling via Snowdonia National Park to North Wales, then traveling via Stratford and Oxford to London; touring Stratford-upon-Avon; visiting Shakespeare’s birthplace and Anne Hathaway’s cottage; and finally, in London, visiting Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Piccadilly Circus, St. Paul’s Cathedral, and Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace (if scheduled).
The cost to attend is currently $3,455 with a surcharge if travelers are older than 30. The trip includes flights to and from Albany, accommodations, breakfast each morning, three evening meals, and guided tours highlighted in the itinerary.
