Museum set for 40th year

CAROGA LAKE — The Caroga Historical Museum will celebrate its 40th anniversary this year with a series of events.

The 2017 season opens with an exhibit from 7 to 9 p.m. June 29, dedicated to reviewing the museum’s history, according to a news release.

A free open-mic reception will allow the public to share stories about the history of the area and the museum.

On July 15, the museum will host its annual craft fair from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. that features creative vendors and the Durey Creek Bluegrass Band. Food will be available for purchase starting at 11 a.m. 

On July 26, the Caroga Lake Music Festival will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. using the museum’s pegged barn as a stage. The public should bring chairs and blankets. Entrance is free, and coffee, tea and cookies will be available for purchase, the news release said. 

On Aug. 3, the museum will hold a reception to mark the start of an exhibit of Caroga wildflower photos from 7 to 9 p.m., with refreshments provided. Attendance is free. Goodwill offerings are appreciated, the news release said.

Next, the museum will hold its first chicken barbecue from 4 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Camper’s Corner Store, Route 29A and Beech Ridge Road. It will be takeout only. The cost is $10 per dinner. 

The anniversary season will end Aug. 19, when the Sun Mountain Fiddler will perform from 7 to 9 p.m., rain or shine. Bring a chair or blanket. Admission is $10, and ice cream sundaes will be available for purchase, according to the news release.
