Memorial Day parade, events planned

GLOVERSVILLE — The annual Gloversville Memorial Parade and Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. May 29, the Gloversville parade committee has announced.

Again this year, the line of march will be from Sixth Avenue and North Main Street, east on Sixth Avenue to Kingsboro Avenue, south on Kingsboro to Fulton Street, then west on Fulton to the main entrance of Prospect Hill Cemetery, where it will be disband.

After the parade, a memorial service and the placement of wreaths will take place at the Soldiers and Sailors Monument in the cemetery.

For nearly 80 years, the Gloversville Memorial Day Parade has been an event for the community and for many people who attend from outside the town. Thousands of people line the parade route to support and honor those who have served and continue to serve our country.

“Participation in the parade is open to all groups, and we are always looking for new participants,” says Michael Perrella, chairman of the parade committee.

Any group wishing to take part in the parade and have not been contacted by the parade committee, may call Perrella at (518) 725-3093.

Another responsibility of the parade committee is the placement of flags on veterans graves. The placement will begin about May 10 by members of the parade committee and other groups and organization that donate their time to help ensure that no veteran is forgotten.
