Will to serve as state vet society president
Mark E. Will, DVM will serve the New York State Veterinary Medical Society (NYSVMS) as President starting on Jan. 1, 2021.
Dr. Will grew up in Oakfield, a small farming community in western New York. He attended Cornell University’s School of Agriculture and Life Science, graduating in 1989. Dr. Will continued his education at Purdue University, receiving his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1993.
Upon graduation, Dr. Will took a position at Parkside Animal Hospital in Albany. He worked as an associate veterinarian at Parkside for five years.
During his time at Parkside, Dr. Will became a member of the Capital District Veterinary Medical Society. He served as president of the society from 1998 to 1999 and as ethics committee chair from 2001 to 2012. In 2013, he was appointed CDVMS regional representative to the New York State Veterinary Medical Society. As a board member of NYSVMS, Dr. Will served on several committees.
In 2000, Dr. Will purchased Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital in Gloversville, NY. Shortly after acquiring the practice, Dr. Will joined the Glove Cities Rotary Club. During his many years of involvement in Rotary, Dr. Will served as secretary from 2006 to 2013 and as president from 2017 to 2018.
Outgrowing the two-exam room facility on Steele Avenue Extension in Gloversville, Dr. Will moved the practice to a larger, state of the art building on Harrison Street in Gloversville in 2008.
This has allowed Glove Cities Veterinary Hospital to expand to a five-doctor practice. In 2020, Dove Creek Animal Hospital in Amsterdam, was established as a partner hospital to serve clients and patients in Montgomery County.
Dr. Will has a strong commitment to community involvement.
In addition to his service to organized veterinary medicine and Rotary, Dr. Will has served as board member and president of both his local Cornell Cooperative Extension and the Fulton County YMCA.
He is an Eagle Scout and also volunteers as an advisor of the Naxa Nimat Chapter of Order of the Arrow, the honor society of Boy Scouts.
The New York State Veterinary Medical Society is a professional association that represents the more than 2,500 licensed veterinarians in New York State. The NYSVMS’s mission is to lead New York State veterinarians in the education, advancement and protection of animal wellness, public health and the veterinary medical profession.
