Log cabin trip to Holyoke March 11

FONDA — The Glen-Mohawk Seniors regular meeting on Tuesday, was called to order by President Joe Mancini. The morning prayer was given by Chaplain Allan Taylor. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the group sang “My Country ‘Tis of Thee” as Barbara Furman played the piano.

The guest speaker was the Mohawk Town Board Supervisor Ed Bishop, who said they are trying to go green and hopefully put in a solar farm. Bishop also gave a contribution to the Glen-Mohawk Seniors.

Vice President Gloria Kimball took the roll call with 26 members present. The group welcomed eight guests.

The secretary’s report was read and accepted.

Phyllis Smith, corresponding secretary, passed around a sympathy, a thinking of you, and two get well cards for members to sign. She read a thank you card from St. Mary’s Auxiliary.

Trips: Lu Wilmot, said the bus will leave Park Street, Fonda at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 17, to take members to Turning Stone. Wilmot will have a signup sheet next week for the March 11, trip to the Log Cabin, Holyoke, Mass. for an Irish country St. Patrick’s celebration dinner and show starring Deirdre Reilly. Kimball said the first Tai Chi class with Earl O’Bryan will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. starting Feb. 4, after the regular meeting. The group will also have classes on Feb. 11, and 18, at the same time.

New business: Mancini corrected the birthdays on the agenda sheet.


∫ Mancini said the bus taking seniors to the Fonda High School jazz festival on Feb. 13, will leave the Fonda Reformed Church between 10:30 and 10:45 a.m. and will be leaving the school to return at 1 p.m.

∫ The collection for the backpack program and the Montgomery Country Office for the Aging will be held Tuesday, at the meeting.

∫ The Mardi Gras dinner and bingo will be Feb. 25.

∫ On Feb. 9, the town of Mohawk Fire Department, Fonda, will have a pancake breakfast from 7 a.m. to noon at the firehouse.

∫ Kimball said the OFA is looking for drivers and gave information on joining the club’s membership.

∫ The American Sewing Guild, Albany Chapter, will cover various sewing techniques at the Fonda Reformed Church from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Feb. 15.

D. Dorine Dimond read the history of how the Glen-Mohawk Seniors started years ago.

Olive Taylor and Mancini did readings.

Mary Fox conducted the 50-25-25 raffle with Furman’s help. The winners were Beverly Guiffre and Mary Fox.
