Christmas luncheon slated for Wednesday

JOHNSTOWN — The following is for the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center, 109 E. Main St.

∫ At noon Wednesday will be a Christmas decorating party and luncheon. The center will be putting up its tree and all the decorations and lights to transform the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center for the holidays. The 50 Plus Club will have the hat and mitten tree ready to be decorated with items for school children. Those interested can purchase an angel or star in honor of someone for $3 and hang it on the angel tree with the proceeds going to help a family in need. The local food pantry is always in need especially during the holiday season so we have a box ready to be filled with non-perishable food items. The toy drive box is ready to be filled with Christmas gifts that will go to children in the local area. Don’t forget the dogs and cats that are in need of so many supplies at the James A. Brennan Humane Society and bring something to put in the collection box. The center will continue collecting items for the next few weeks, so stop in anytime and have a cup of coffee or hot chocolate and see how the senior center looks for the holidays.

∫ At 1:30 p.m. Thursday the 50 Plus Club will be hosting Wii Bowling.

∫ At 10:45 a.m. Dec. 12, the Canajoharie School band will provide entertainment followed by the Christmas party luncheon catered by the Hot Dog Hut. Stop in the office to sign up by Friday.

∫ Reminder: Mah-Jongg is played from 10 a.m. to noon each Monday. From 10 a.m. to noon each Wednesday, the Knit and Crochet Club meets and everyone is welcome to join this social group whether they are a beginner or have been knitting or crocheting for years. Some supplies are available and Bonnie Schwartz is the teacher who can get anyone started and help along the way. There is no charge to join in either of these activities.

∫ The 2020 membership drive continues; sign up or renew a membership by Dec. 31, to be entered in a drawing to win $50. The membership is $15 for the year regardless of one’s address. Anyone who becomes a member, not only are supporting the senior center and 50 Plus Club, but also have the benefit of saving money on classes, trips, and some events.
