Free movie at senior center on Dec. 19

JOHNSTOWN — The following events are for the Johnstown 50 Plus Club, located in the Shirley J. Luck Senior Center, 109 E. Main St.

The center will be closed on Thursday in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.

At noon Dec. 4, the club will have a decorate for Christmas luncheon at the center. The lunch will be put on by the center staff. Those who attend can decorate the center for the upcoming holiday season as a group. Everyone is invited to bring an ornament from home to hang on the center tree.

There will also be an angel tree where attendees can purchase an angel for $3 to hang on the tree in honor or memory of a loved one. A hat and mitten tree will also be on premises to hang hats or mittens on which will be donated to needy school children. Those who plan to attend can RSVP their intention to attend with the senior center office no later than Friday.

At 11:30 a.m. Dec. 5, there will be an officers meeting; at 1:15 a.m. will be the business meeting followed by Wii Bowling.

At 1 p.m. Dec. 11, is the club’s senior movie day at the Johnstown Movieplex. The price is $6 for admission, a small popcorn and beverage.

At noon Dec. 12, the club will hold its annual Christmas party. They will be getting together to celebrate the holiday with a hot buffet catered by the Hot Dog Hut of Johnstown, followed by a presentation of the Radio City Music Hall’s Christmas Spectacular. Stop by the senior center business office to RSVP before Dec. 6, for this festive occasion. The cost is $15 per person.

At 1 p.m. Dec. 19, the club will hold a free movie day at the senior center. The movie is Elf, a Christmas tale for the whole family. The story follows one of Santa’s elves named Buddy who, after finding out that he’s adopted, goes looking for his human father in New York City. The film stars Will Ferrell, James Caan, Zooey Deschanel, and Bob Newhart.

At noon Dec. 28 — and to round out this year — join the club for a New Year’s covered dish luncheon. The guests are asked to bring a larger sized, covered dish to pass and their own place setting, a main dish will be provided for dinner and entertainment by Oldy B Goldy. RSVP by Dec. 20, for planning purposes.
